How does a vacation with your best canine buddy in a lovely setting with lots of outdoor, totally dog-friendly safe, and fun activities sound? If you’re ready, check out Canine Camp Getaway!

Take your pick of two very special settings – scenic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania or the beautiful, rustic Catskill Mountains of New York. Stay as busy as you like with dog-centered classes, DOGA (yes, yoga with your dog), “Barks & Crafts,” outdoor dining, dog-friendly karaoke, and nightly entertainment. Or simply relax – in Gettysburg with a private, man-made lake for the dogs or in a dog-friendly pool in the Catskills.

Canine Camp Getaway is a one-of-a-kind vacation geared to dog lovers and their dogs. Both facilities are totally dog-friendly for all ages, sizes, and abilities – dining and Yappy Hours, and days filled with activities you can share with your pup including hiking, agility, swimming, Frisbee, lure coursing, canine freestyle dance, and more!

In addition, there are classes on lots of topics including Canine CPR, seminars from veterinarians and trainers, and resources on how to help your dog live a happy and healthy life! The venues, while different, are people-friendly too; Gettysburg has a few more amenities, while East Durham emphasizes an unplugged, laid-back feel.

Rates range from $1,025 (meals and activities only) to $1,650 per person in Gettysburg and $825 (meals and activities only) to $1,300 per person in East Durham, depending on occupancy. There is also a brand new in 2023 “Getaway Plus” rate for the full East Durham September 25th – October 1st package. Rates for “Getaway Plus” range from $1,500 (meals and activities only) to $2,300. Full rates include meals, accommodations, and all dog activities.

What is a more relaxing way to unwind from the work week than having Fido at your feet and a few beers in your hands?

With the popularity of its inaugural “Yappy Hour” earlier this year, Greenport Harbor Brewery and Harbor Pet have come together again to give us a second round.

On Friday, April 21st, you and your fur baby (well-behaved and leashed, no retractables) are welcome at Greenport Harbor Brewery’s Peconic Tasting Room. As you sip delicious full pours, Fido will get to gnosh on Harbor Pet Grrowler Dog Treats (made from the brewery’s wet grains of the day!)

No sign-up necessary, but let Greenport Harbor Brewery know you and your fur baby are coming for some treats on their Facebook event page.

Sat., Aug. 27th, 10 AM – 1 PM (Rain Date: Sun., Aug. 28th)

Pine Trail Preserve, NY Route 25, 1/6th of a mile east of William Floyd Parkway, Ridge, NY (Google Map)

Rescheduled from May. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time!

Who’s ready for a hike with dogs? Back by popular demand, we have rescheduled LI-DOG’s Pack WalkTM & Hike on the Pine Trail to Sandy and Grassy Ponds for Sat., Aug. 27th (Rain date: Sun., Aug. 28th). This is a great 4.3-mile, out-and-back hike that goes through part of the Long Island Pine Barrens. The rewarding hike is known for its sights including the remains of a very hot brush fire in the mid-1980s and two beautiful ponds. The trail itself is mostly flat dirt, but opens up to a short sandy area crossing the power line section.

You can expect the hike to take three hours total. Don’t forget to bring water for you and your dog. Also, dress appropriately for the weather, but sneakers or hiking boots and pants are recommended. Also, as ticks are ubiquitous on Long Island, bring bug spray for yourself and tick medication/collar for your pup.

We look forward to seeing you and your dog on the Pine Trail on Saturday!

Please check back here Friday night or Saturday morning to confirm the Pack Walk is taking place as planned. Rain date is Sunday.
