Please join LI-DOG for our first-ever Pack Walk™ at Avalon Park & Preserve in Stony Brook, NY!
This park and preserve consists of 140 acres, part of which were once a residential area probably abandoned in the early 1900s. The 8 acres which make up Avalon Park were purchased in 1997 by the Paul Simons Foundation, which transformed the area into a series of woodland gardens and paths that celebrate the natural flora of Long Island. The Preserve includes 76 acres of fields and forests and a network of trails that provide access to all parts of the preserve. There are some inclines and a few steps, but for the most part the trails are flat. During the walk we will also cross a small, narrow street.
Due to park restrictions (max 15 people per group), we are going to split up this Pack Walk into two groups. Group 1 will start at 9AM. Group 2 will start at 9:30AM. When you RSVP, please make sure you RSVP for the group which has the starting time that you want to walk.

Please note all RSVP’s MUST be done on the LI-DOG Meetup site as we must abide by the Park’s rules on the size of our group. Given these size limits, we ask everyone to PLEASE keep your RSVP up-to-date. If you RSVP “yes” and find you can’t come to the Pack Walk, change your RSVP to “No” right away, so other people and pups can join us. Thank you for your cooperation!
We’ll meet up by the big wisteria tree near the pond on the corner of Main St. and Harbor Rd.
While there are a few parking spots on Harbor Rd., more parking is available along Main Street and in the Village Shopping Center about one-eighth of a mile north of the park.
PLEASE NOTE: Dogs must remain leashed AT ALL TIMES. This park has a strict on-leash policy that is enforced by Park Rangers. Also, please do not bring Flexi Leads as we’ll be walking in groups and people and dogs can get tangled. Also, please bring water and poop bags – as cleanup is a must.
