LI-DOG is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our next LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at beautiful Sands Point Preserve, the 216-acre former estate of the Guggenheim family! Our Pack-Walks – guided, group on-leash dog walks – are a great way for both you and your dog to socialize, while enjoying some of Long Island’s most beautiful parks!

Please join us for the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Sands Point Preserve on Sat., June 22nd starting at 11 AM. Sands Point Preserve features multiple hiking trails on 200 acres of woods, beautiful lawns, a pond, fields and great views of the Long Island Sound! Please be aware that some of the trails may be a bit steep at times and have roots and rocks.

We’ll meet on the big lawn in front of Hempstead House, the former home of the Guggenheim family, where you’ll also get great views of massive Castle Gould, the carriage house and stables. We anticipate that the Pack Walk™ will take about an hour, but there will be opportunities to make the walk shorter for those who wish to.

Once again this year we will be reserving some picnic tables, so bring your lunch.  We’ve reserved three tables down by the pond. If you have a folding chair, perhaps you could bring that and you and your pooch can join us while we have lunch overlooking the peaceful pond.

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs are NOT allowed on the beach, nor in the houses and must remain leashed AT ALL TIMES! Please do not bring Flexi Leads as not only can people and dogs get tangled, but there are snapping turtles in the pond, which you and your dog will want to avoid! Also, please bring water and poop bags – as clean up is a must.

Admission to Sand Point Preserve is $15 per car. Walk-ins are still $4.

Please arrive by 10:30 AM to sign in, so we can begin the walk promptly at 11 AM.

Please join LI-DOG for our first-ever Pack Walk™ at Avalon Park & Preserve in Stony Brook, NY!

This park and preserve consists of 140 acres, part of which were once a residential area probably abandoned in the early 1900s. The 8 acres which make up Avalon Park were purchased in 1997 by the Paul Simons Foundation, which transformed the area into a series of woodland gardens and paths that celebrate the natural flora of Long Island. The Preserve includes 76 acres of fields and forests and a network of trails that provide access to all parts of the preserve. There are some inclines and a few steps, but for the most part the trails are flat. During the walk we will also cross a small, narrow street.

Due to park restrictions (max 15 people per group), we are going to split up this Pack Walk into two groups. Group 1 will start at 9AM. Group 2 will start at 9:30AM. When you RSVP, please make sure you RSVP for the group which has the starting time that you want to walk.

Please note all RSVP’s MUST be done on the LI-DOG Meetup site as we must abide by the Park’s rules on the size of our group. Given these size limits, we ask everyone to PLEASE keep your RSVP up-to-date. If you RSVP “yes” and find you can’t come to the Pack Walk, change your RSVP to “No” right away, so other people and pups can join us. Thank you for your cooperation!

We’ll meet up by the big wisteria tree near the pond on the corner of Main St. and Harbor Rd.

While there are a few parking spots on Harbor Rd., more parking is available along Main Street and in the Village Shopping Center about one-eighth of a mile north of the park.

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs must remain leashed AT ALL TIMES. This park has a strict on-leash policy that is enforced by Park Rangers. Also, please do not bring Flexi Leads as we’ll be walking in groups and people and dogs can get tangled. Also, please bring water and poop bags – as cleanup is a must.

**In the event of inclement weather, please check Meetup or our Facebook group. We will post any weather-related changes by 8 AM Saturday morning.**

We hope you and your pup can join us for our Pack Walk at Avalon Park & Preserve on the 18th!

On Saturday, April 27th at Noon (FREE registration starting at 11 a.m.), please join us for an LI-DOG Pack Walk™ as we spend a delightful hour on a guided tour of the beautiful, English-themed splendor of Old Westbury Gardens. There’ll be plenty of spring’s budding horticultural treasures for our eyes and our fur babies’ noses to enjoy!

Make sure to bring poop bags–as clean-up is a must!–and bring your camera as there are many beautiful photo opportunities on the grounds. Please no retractable leashes on the Pack Walk as dogs and people can become entangled.

Registrants for the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Old Westbury Gardens will have the opportunity to donate $5 to LI-DOG for a chance to win a raffle basket of goodies for you and your dog.  If you double your donation, you (more than) double your chances to win as a $10 donation gets four tickets! Proceeds support LI-DOG’s work to gain more access to public parks and beaches for Long Island dog owners and their dogs.

Make sure to stick around after the Pack Walk and enjoy the Old Westbury Gardens Spring Dog Festival with booths and exhibits from rescues, animal advocacy organizations including LI-DOG, and vendors of doggie goodies and gear. OWG’s Spring Dog Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. only.

On both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., enjoy Old Westbury Gardens’ Spring Dog-Friendly Weekend when on-leash dogs and their people are invited to enjoy the grounds of the estate. Dogs must be on-leash at all times when visiting the gardens and are not allowed in any buildings on the grounds.

OWG admission fees are $12 for adults; $10 for seniors (62 and over) and college students with ID; and $7 for children ages 7-17. OWG members, children 6 and under, and four-legged visitors are free!

LI-DOG Pack Walk™ Nissequogue River Trail!

Sat., Nov. 17th, 11AM

Nissequogue River State Park, Kings Park

(Google Maps)

Please join LI-DOG for our final Pack Walk™ of the 2018 season as we walk the Nissequogue River Trail and a section of the dog-friendly trail at Kings Park Bluffs. Our Pack Walks will resume in the spring.

We’re planning a great 1.5-mile walk that offers a variety of scenery changes for our November LI-DOG Pack Walk™ on the Nissequogue River Trail. We’ll start on a road that leads to a flat, wide gravel trail along the inlet for the Nissequogue River and then climb up some wooden stairs to a trail above the shoreline that has nice views over the water. We’ll then cut over to the Kings Park Bluffs portion of our walk. In order to get to the bluffs, we’ll climb another short flight of wooden stairs that will take us onto a wooded trail along the top of the bluffs.. These bluffs have great views over the Long Island Sound. After another third of a mile or so, many of us will turn around and walk back to our starting point. The walk will take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how long we stop to take in the views.

Those dog owners and their pups who don’t mind dealing with more steepness and hills, however, will have the opportunity to continue the walk along the bluffs. This part of the Bluff Trail is more challenging, but the views are incredible–some of the best on Long Island!

Please join us for what should be a GREAT final LI-DOG Pack Walk of 2018, whether you’re looking for nice walk in the woods or something a little more challenging!

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs must remain leashed AT ALL TIMES! Please do not bring Flexi Leads as we’ll be walking in groups and people and dogs can get tangled.  Also, please bring water and poop bags – as cleanup is a must.

How to Find Us: The entrance to Nissequogue River State Park is off St. Johnland Rd. Turn into the park onto Kings Park Blvd. and go past the gate house. Follow Kings Park Blvd. north a short distance to a small circle in front of the old Veterans Health Center. Go three-quarters of the way around the circle and follow the small road to the big parking lot on the left. We’ll meet in that parking lot.

Weather-related Changes: Please check our website, Meetup or Facebook on the morning of the walk around 9:00 a.m. for any weather-related changes. If there are no announcements, the Pack Walk is on!
