How to find us:
Follow the entrance road to the main parking lot. Meet us where the trails start on the right side of the parking lot in the back.

To start off our 2023 season, please join us on Saturday, March 18th for our first-ever LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Southaven County Park! LI-DOG Pack Walks™–group on-leash walks–are a great way to enjoy Long Island’s beautiful parks with your dog, while meeting new friends and their pups. Located in Yaphank, Suffolk County, Southaven County Park covers more than 1,300 acres of pine-oak forest and is split by the Carmans River. It is one of the first county parks opened to the public in the 1960’s.

The trail, which is generally considered easy, is a 2.8-mile loop, but we will be walking approximately 2 miles which should take us about an hour. There is a turn-off where you can make the walk shorter if you wish. In general, the trails at this park are wide, dirt and easy to follow. The one which we will be following parallels the river and then we’ll turn onto the main trail before we head back.

Please be aware that dogs must remain leashed AT ALL TIMES on the Pack Walk™. Please also make sure to bring poop bags–as clean-up is a must! Also, no retractable leashes as we’ll be walking as a group and people and dogs can get tangled. Please note the restrooms are closed at this time of year.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so you can sign in and we can start on time.

Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve

Commack Road, Deer Park, NY

(Google Map)

How to find us: Meet us at the Gazebo next to the parking lot!

Please join LI-DOG for our September Pack Walk™ at Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve in Deer Park! Edgewood Oak Brush Plains is a state-owned, 843-acre nature preserve situated within the towns of Babylon, Huntington and Islip. It was the site of the former Edgewood State Hospital.

The trails and paths in the preserve are ideal for hiking, biking, jogging, birding and, of course, dog walking! Old Commack Road, a concrete 1.6- mile road that runs north-south, is now part of the preserve’s trail network. There are also many nice flat, pine needle-covered trails that are great for dog walking.

Parking at the preserve is limited, so we are limiting this Pack Walk to 50 people.

We’ll gather for our LI-DOG Pack Walk™ —a guided group on-leash dog walk–at the gazebo near the parking lot. We’ll begin our walk at the Main Entrance and head into the park from there.

The walk will cover about two miles and take a little over an hour.

PLEASE NOTE: While there may be off-leash dogs on the trails, dogs attending the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ must be kept on leash at all times. Please don’t forget to bring poop bags as pick up is a must, and while the trail is shaded by trees, don’t forget to bring water for you and your pup.

Please NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES as we are walking in a group and the dogs and their humans can get tangled.

To RSVP go to:

LI-DOG on Meetup

Please note: All RSVPs must be done on the LI-DOG Meetup Group so we can keep track of the number of attendees. As space is limited, please keep your RSVP up-to-date so that people who are wait-listed get the opportunity to join us.

Weather-Related Changes: Please check our Meetup and/or Facebook Group or our website on Sun. morning around 9am for any weather-related notices. If there is no notice, the Pack-Walk is on!

We look forward to seeing you and your dogs for our September LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve!
