After a great success last year, the Village of Port Jefferson will once again be featuring the high-flying action of DockDogs®, the independent governing and sanctioning body for dock jumping and dock diving canine performance sports.

Examples of the thrilling aquatic events include: The Big Air® competition features dogs running down a 40’ dock and diving into a pool of water after an object, in which they are electronically judged for the length of their jump. The Extreme Vertical® competition is a “High Jump” for the dogs as they each lunge to snag a “bumper” suspended in the air.

The competition is open to all. Teams are made up of one dog and one handler. Your canine must be 6 months or older to be eligible. Canines of any breed, size or shape are welcomed. Not only is the competition open to all types of canines, but also handlers above the age of 7 are welcomed. They even have a Youth Handler class for those who are between the ages of 7-14.

You must pre-register dogs to compete using the Dock Dogs/Port Paws Dog Festival link.

There is a free TRY IT dock diving session on Friday, July 14th from 4 to 7 p.m.

In addition to enjoying watching the competition, there will also be a free lure course, demonstrations, vendors of doggy goodies and gear, and food trucks. LI-DOG will be there, too, with a booth!

Volunteer to help!

In addition to watching the amazing competition, you can volunteer to hand out treats to visiting dogs, give out flyers, and spread the word about LI-DOG’s campaign to lift the ban on dogs on NYS’s Long Island beaches!  LI-DOG volunteers get into the event for free! To volunteer, email us at events@lidog.org ASAP. We could really use additional help on Saturday.

General Admission tickets are $12 per adult. Kids and canines are free.

Bring a blanket or chairs and make sure to stop by our booth for some great information and to say hello!

If your dog likes to swim and play with other dogs off-leash, and if you would like to spend a morning with your pup, other dog owners and the great folks of LI-DOG for some summer fun, then please join us at Mud Creek Off-Leash Dog Beach in East Patchogue on Saturday morning, July 16th!

At our Beach Pawty, we’ll let our furry friends frolic in the sand and swim in the calm waters of the Great South Bay! We’ll have plenty of tennis balls and Frisbees to add to the fun.

A clean-up of the Off-Leash Beach will start at 9:30 a.m., so if you and your fur baby would like a little extra time in the sun, please join us in getting the area ready for our meetup!

Please remember to bring plenty of water for you and your pup, your own towels, beach chairs and an umbrella!

PLEASE NOTE: Mud Creek has no amenities–no trash receptacles, no poop bag stations, no bathrooms and no water fountains. LI-DOG will have poop bags on hand, but please help us make the event a success by remembering to bring these items.

Mud Creek is a natural borders dog park, which means it is not fenced on most sides. For everyone’s safety, please only bring dogs that are well-socialized—used to playing with other dogs off-leash—and that will reliably come when called. Please, no retractable leashes.

To access the dog beach, use the double-gate entry, walk along the fence, then turn right onto the beach as soon as the fence ends. Please keep off-leash dogs out of the area in front of the fence, which is a designated no-dog zone.

Parking is on the street. Please keep dogs on-leash until you get into the off-leash area.

Volunteer Opportunities: If you love LI-DOG’s fun, dog-friendly events, become part of the fun by volunteering to help!

– This event really needs four or five STRONG people to volunteer! We need help carrying stuff—umbrellas, water, a table, dog toys—from our cars onto the beach and back again.

– You can also help at the LI-DOG table: sign people in, hand out tennis balls to the dogs, etc.

Email us at events@lidog.org with Doggie Beach Pawty Help in the subject line if you can help make our Beach Pawty a success! Thank you in advance.

Weather-related changes: In the event of inclement weather or exceedingly hot conditions, please check our Meetup and Facebook group or our website by 9:30 a.m. that morning. If there are no announcements, the Beach Pawty is on!

We look forward to seeing you and your dogs Saturday morning, July 16th at our Beach Pawty!
