Volunteers Needed! (See below for details)
After a great success last year, the Village of Port Jefferson will once again be featuring the high-flying action of DockDogs®, the independent governing and sanctioning body for dock jumping and dock diving canine performance sports.
Examples of the thrilling aquatic events include: The Big Air® competition features dogs running down a 40’ dock and diving into a pool of water after an object, in which they are electronically judged for the length of their jump. The Extreme Vertical® competition is a “High Jump” for the dogs as they each lunge to snag a “bumper” suspended in the air.
The competition is open to all. Teams are made up of one dog and one handler. Your canine must be 6 months or older to be eligible. Canines of any breed, size or shape are welcomed. Not only is the competition open to all types of canines, but also handlers above the age of 7 are welcomed. They even have a Youth Handler class for those who are between the ages of 7-14.
You must pre-register dogs to compete using the Dock Dogs/Port Paws Dog Festival link.
There is a free TRY IT dock diving session on Friday, July 14th from 4 to 7 p.m.
In addition to enjoying watching the competition, there will also be a free lure course, demonstrations, vendors of doggy goodies and gear, and food trucks. LI-DOG will be there, too, with a booth!
Volunteer to help!
In addition to watching the amazing competition, you can volunteer to hand out treats to visiting dogs, give out flyers, and spread the word about LI-DOG’s campaign to lift the ban on dogs on NYS’s Long Island beaches! LI-DOG volunteers get into the event for free! To volunteer, email us at events@lidog.org ASAP. We could really use additional help on Saturday.
General Admission tickets are $12 per adult. Kids and canines are free.
Bring a blanket or chairs and make sure to stop by our booth for some great information and to say hello!
