Are you tired of dodging cars and sidewalk snowdrifts when walking your dog instead of enjoying the beauty and safety of public parks?

The fact is most Town parks in Suffolk and Nassau counties and almost all Nassau County parks currently ban dog owners and their leashed dogs. This is dangerous for both dog owners and their dogs, especially during the winter when snowdrifts block the sidewalks and we are relegated to walking our dogs along dirty and dangerous streets. If you’re tired of dodging cars with your dog, come to LI-DOG’s Feb. 18th meeting to hear how you can help change that!

At LI-DOG, our mission is to expand dog owner access to public parkland.  In addition to helping create dog parks, LI-DOG also works for more ON-LEASH access to public parks as well as off-leash access to Long Island’s many miles of public beaches.

Learn about our latest efforts to get more on-leash walking trails in Nassau County parks, help the Town of North Hempstead make permanent a program to let people walk dogs in their parks, plus get the latest on a dog park in the Town of Hempstead. In addition, we’ll have information about upcoming dog-related events.  Anyone that’s interested in helping with these campaigns and/or events should come to the meeting.

PLUS, we want to hear from you!  Do you know of other parks or beaches that would be great for on-leash or off-leash exercise and play?  As always, we need your input as well as volunteers to keep our initiatives moving.  So, don’t settle for your dog catching snowballs in the yard this winter.  Join us for our next meeting on Feb. 18th as we plot our next moves to make Long Island more dog-friendly!
