How to find us: Meet us at the Gazebo next to the parking lot!

Please join LI-DOG for our September Pack Walk™ at Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve in Deer Park! Edgewood Oak Brush Plains is a state-owned, 843-acre nature preserve situated within the towns of Babylon, Huntington and Islip. It was the site of the former Edgewood State Hospital.

The trails and paths in the preserve are ideal for hiking, biking, jogging, birding and, of course, dog walking! Old Commack Road, a concrete 1.6- mile road that runs north-south, is now part of the preserve’s trail network. There are also many nice flat, pine needle-covered trails that are great for dog walking.

Parking at the preserve is limited, so we are limiting this Pack Walk to 50 people.

We’ll gather for our LI-DOG Pack Walk™ —a guided group on-leash dog walk–at the gazebo near the parking lot. We’ll begin our walk at the Main Entrance and head into the park from there.

The walk will cover about two miles and take a little over an hour.

PLEASE NOTE: While there may be off-leash dogs on the trails, dogs attending the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ must be kept on leash at all times. Please don’t forget to bring poop bags as pick up is a must, and while the trail is shaded by trees, don’t forget to bring water for you and your pup.

Please NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES as we are walking in a group and the dogs and their humans can get tangled.

Please note: All RSVPs must be done on the LI-DOG Meetup Group so we can keep track of the number of attendees. As space is limited, please keep your RSVP up-to-date so that people who are wait-listed get the opportunity to join us.

Weather-Related Changes: Please check our Meetup and/or Facebook Group or our website on Sun. morning around 9am for any weather-related notices. If there is no notice, the Pack-Walk is on!

We look forward to seeing you and your dogs for our September LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve!

Please join LI-DOG for our first-ever Pack Walk™ at Edgewood-Oak Brush Plains Preserve in Deer Park! Edgewood-Oak Brush Plains is a state-owned, 843-acre nature preserve situated within the towns of Babylon, Huntington and Islip. It was the site of the former Edgewood State Hospital.

The trails and paths in the preserve are ideal for hiking, biking, jogging, birding and, of course, dog walking! Old Commack Road, a concrete 1.6- mile road that runs north-south and is now part of the preserve’s trail network, is great for jogging and biking, especially for families with children. There are also many nice, flat, pine needle-covered trails that are great for dog walking.

Due to social distancing guidelines and because parking at the preserve is limited, we are limiting this Pack Walk to 30 people.

We’ll gather for our LI-DOG Pack Walk™ —a guided group on-leash dog walk–at the gazebo near the parking lot. We’ll begin our walk at the Main Entrance and head straight up a dirt road, passing a field where they fly model airplanes. Please be mindful of the planes. Once we pass the “airfield”, we’ll cross over the cement road and continue straight on a nice wide dirt path. We’ll walk about half mile on that trail before we make our first left turn.

Once we turn, the trail will narrow although it is still easily passable for a person and a dog. This path is mostly dirt, covered with pine needles. On our walk, we’ll pass several cement barricades, which are there to stop people from riding dirt bikes and ATV’s on the trails. After we walk through the pine trees about a half mile, we’ll make a left after the second barricade. This trail also is dirt with pine needles and is mostly straight.

Once we hit the T crossing, we’ll turn left again and after about 1,000 feet we’ll make a slight right to return to the cement road. Once we hit the road, we will make a left and head back to the main trail.

The walk will cover about two miles and will take a little over an hour.

PLEASE NOTE: While there may be off-leash dogs on the trail, dogs must be kept on leash on the LI-DOG Pack Walk™. Please don’t forget to bring poop bags as pick up is a must, and while the trail is shaded by trees, don’t forget to bring water for you and your pup.

Please NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES as we are walking in a group and the dogs and their humans can get tangled.

COVID-19 Precautions: Please download the LI-DOG COVID-19 Agreement and our Sign In Sheet and Liability Waiver BEFORE the Pack Walk™, sign both documents, and bring them with you to the Pack Walk. The fewer people we have standing around signing documents, the better!
