09/13/2020 – Water Bark 2020

Water Bark 2020!

Sun., Sept. 13th, 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Eisenhower, Cow Meadow, and N. Woodmere Spray Parks

E. Meadow, Freeport, and N. Woodmere, NY

Nassau County’s Sprinkler Parks are going to the dogs! The County’s splash parks may be closed for the season, but they’re opening one last time in 2020 for Nassau’s furry family members to run, splash and play! Spray parks located in Eisenhower Park in E. Meadow; Cow Meadow Park in Freeport; and North Woodmere Park in N. Woodmere are participating in Nassau County’s first-ever Water Bark event.

The event will run from 10:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon depending on the size of your dog. Small Dog Sessions will run from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Medium Dog Sessions will run from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., and Large Dog Sessions will run from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Entry is free and first-come, first-serve. Capacity for each session is limited to the first 25 dog owners who arrive.

In order to support County Executive Laura Curran’s efforts to promote animal adoption, a mobile adoption unit from North Shore Animal League will be on hand for dog parents who are thinking of adding another canine family member to their pack!

Safety Measures: Please be aware that all humans must wear a mask. To facilitate social distancing there is a limit of two people per pet. All dogs must be on leash when entering and exiting the splash park.

For more information, check out the Nassau County Dept. of Parks on Facebook.

How does a nice walk along a mostly shaded path in the woods with friendly dogs and people on a Saturday morning sound? If it sounds good, please join us for the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Massapequa Preserve on Sat., Aug. 15th at 10 o’clock in the morning!

On our Aug. 15th Pack Walk™ — a guided, group on-leash dog walk –we’ll be walking the Fire Road Trail, a flat, wide dirt trail within Massapequa Preserve. We’ll walk about a mile down the trail, then turn onto a smaller trail that ends at a clearing with a creek and shallow pond. We’ll stop there for water and let the dogs swim and wade in the shallow pond.  Once we’ve rested, we’ll head back down the trail to where we started. The entire walk will be about 2 miles and take about 2 hours.

PLEASE NOTE: While there may be off-leash dogs on the trail, dogs must be kept on leash on the LI-DOG Pack Walk™. Please don’t forget to bring poop bags as pick up is a must, and while the trail is shaded by trees, don’t forget to bring water for you and your pup.

Please NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES as we are walking in a group and the dogs and their humans can get tangled.

HOW TO FIND US: Meet us near the paved bridge at the north end of the Mansfield Park parking lot at the Walker St. Entrance. Watch out for bikes as you cross the asphalt bike path to the dirt path!

COVID-19 Precautions:  Please download the LI-DOG COVID-19 Agreement and our General Sign In Sheet and Liability Waiver  BEFORE the Pack Walk™, sign both documents, and bring them with you to the Pack Walk. The fewer people we have standing around signing documents, the better!

LI-DOG Pack WalkTM at Calverton Pine Barrens State Forest – CANCELLED

Sun., March 29th, 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Parking at Veterans Memorial Park
5789 Middle Country Rd., Wading River, NY

(Google Map)

Please note that due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have cancelled this event. We are hoping to reschedule this Pack Walk for the Fall.

Please join LI-DOG for our first Pack Walk™ of the 2020 season as we visit the Calverton Pine Barrens State Forest, a forest reserve in Wading River, for the first time.

For our March LI-DOG Pack Walk™, we will be walking an approximately 2.5 mile section of a 7.6 mile loop trail. There is ample parking at Veterans Memorial Park, which is off Middle Country Rd. in Wading River. We will be meeting and starting our walk from Veterans Memorial Park. We will then walk by one of the old 10,000-foot runways that was part of the Grumman Flight Test Facility, before we turn south to follow the trail by Grumman Blvd.

Once on the Grumman Blvd. trail, we will walk to a small pond and through the woods, passing the Isaac Dog Park and finishing the walk back at Veterans Memorial Park. Though the trail has been rated moderate, the part we will be walking is a very easy walk as it is newly paved, perfectly flat and has no change in elevation.

The walk should take approximately 1 hour. For those who wish to walk further, please let one of our Pack Leaders know and we will try to have a group that will accommodate you. The extended walk, which will increase the length of the walk by approximately 3.5 miles, will go over to Grumman Memorial Park where several jets significant to that company are parked, before heading back.

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs MUST remain leashed AT ALL TIMES! Please do not bring Flexi Leads as we’ll be walking in groups and people and dogs can get tangled. Also, please bring water and poop bags – as cleanup is a must.
