Crisp fall air, pumpkin spice, apple cider, Halloween costumes—celebrate all the fun of autumn with Fido during Dog Days at Old Westbury Gardens. Enjoy the park with your fur baby all weekend from 10 to 5! Then, on Sunday, join LI-DOG for the Old Westbury Gardens Fall Dog Festival, which runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be doggie vendors, rescue groups, animal advocacy organizations, and fun activities including a big costume contest and parade starting at 3:00 pm (register by 2:00 pm).

At Noon on Sunday, October 28, we will lead an LI-DOG Pack Walk™—a group on-leash dog walk–through the grounds of the estate. Please be at our table or by the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ banner by 11:45 a.m. to sign in. The Walk will take 45-60 minutes and is almost all on flat ground. There are opportunities to shorten the walk as well. Make sure to bring poop bags–as clean-up is a must!–and bring your camera as there are many beautiful photo opportunities on the grounds.

Registrants for the LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Old Westbury Gardens will have the opportunity to donate $5 to LI-DOG for a chance to win a raffle basket full of doggie toys and treats. If you double your donation, you more than double your chances to win, as a $10 donation gets you four tickets! Proceeds from the raffle support LI-DOG’s work to open local parks and beaches to our four-legged family members.

Please note: Dogs must be on-leash at all times when visiting the gardens and are not allowed in any buildings on the grounds.

OWG admission fees are $12 for adults; $10 for seniors (over 62) or students with valid ID and $7 for children ages 7-17. OWG members, children 6 and under, and four-legged visitors are free! OWG accepts AMEX, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover at the admissions booth, gift shop, and café.

LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Southards Pond Park!
Sat., Sept. 22nd, 10AM
Southards Pond Park
Park Ave., Babylon
(Google Map)

Please join LI-DOG for a Pack Walk™ at Southards Pond Park in Babylon. The park covers multiple acres of forested beauty, it’s full of friendly people and their four legged companions, and the trails are flat and easy.

Our September 2018 LI-DOG Pack Walk™ —a guided group on-leash dog walk–will follow the Southards Pond Park Loop trail, a 1.4 mile moderately trafficked loop trail. We’ll walk through the woods to the southern bank of the pond, and then walk along the pond and again enter the woods to return. Because of the Harmful Algal Blooms DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DOG TO GO IN THE WATER!

This Pack Walk will take one to 1-1/2 hours. Plus, feel free to linger after the Pack Walk as there are plenty of nice places in the park to hang out with your dog and other people from the walk. Dogs are NOT allowed in the picnic and playground areas of the park. The park is nestled between two neighborhoods so be considerate of the residents by minimizing the noise level and keeping the area clean. There are no trash receptacles along the walk, but there are one or two on the bridge by the pond.

DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN THE PARK. Also, please no retractable leashes as we’ll be walking in a group and people and dogs can get easily tangled.

WEATHER RELATED CHANGES: Please check our Meetup or Facebook Group or our website on Sat. morning around 8:30 a.m. for any weather-related notices. If there is no notice, the Pack Walk is on!

PARKING: Park at Babylon Memorial Grade School on Park Ave. and walk across the bridge that connects the parking lot to the park. We will be on the park side of the bridge.

Commack Rd., Deer Park, NY
(Google Map)

Please note: We have changed the location of this Pack Walk™ to Southards Pond Park. Check out LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Southards Pond Park for details. Please join LI-DOG for our first-ever Pack Walk™ at Edgewood-Oak Brush Plains Preserve in Deer Park! Edgewood-Oak Brush Plains is a state-owned, 843-acre nature preserve situated within the towns of Babylon, Huntington and Islip. It was the site of the former Edgewood State Hospital, which is long gone now.

The trails and paths in the preserve are ideal for hiking, biking, jogging, birding and, of course, dog walking! Old Commack Road, a paved 1.6- mile road that runs north-south and is now part of the preserve’s trail network is great for jogging and biking, especially for families with children. There are also many nice flat, pine needle-covered trails that are great for dog walking.

This LI-DOG Pack Walk™ —a guided group on-leash dog walk–will start at the gazebo near the parking lot. At the beginning and at the end of our walk we will be following a trail that runs in front of a model airplane flying field. Please be mindful of the planes. We will post more details on the trail we will be walking nearer the date of our actual walk.

Because parking at the Preserve is limited, we have to limit this LI-DOG Pack WalkTM to 40 people.

Weather-Related Changes: Please check our Meetup and/or Facebook Group or our website on Sat. morning around 8:30 a.m. for any weather-related notices. If there is no notice, the Pack Walk is on!
