The Refuge

515 Broadhollow Rd., Melville

(Google Map)

How to find us: We’ll be out on the patio! Come thru the gate, to the right of the front entrance.

Are you ready to “PAWTEE”? Does Sunday brunch outside with your pup on a big patio with tables and umbrellas (socially-distanced, of course), delicious omelettes, waffles, mimosas and Bloody Mary’s sound great? If so, then please join us for Barkin’ Brunch with LI-DOG at The Refuge, just off Route 110 in Melville.

Besides great food, there’ll be drink specials, dog treats, raffles, and more! Visit The Refuge website to review their menus (Brunch and Brunch Cocktails) and their COVID Safety Plan. That’s Coco@nybulldogsisters, captured by her Mom Feng Sherri Hsiu, reading the Pawtee Menu at one of our previous brunches!

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the outside bar is closed and the couches and chairs around it have been replaced with socially-distanced tables. In order to be seated at a table, you MUST have a reservation. The maximum reservation per table is limited to six guests if not family; ten guests if family. The Refuge strongly recommends making your reservation ahead of time by calling 631-577-4444, but you may still make a reservation when you arrive on a first come, first served basis. If you have a reservation, please let the hostess know that your party has arrived and then visit the LI-DOG table and check out our great raffle baskets!

This is a fund raising event to benefit LI-DOG – The Long Island Dog Owners Group. Please do take a chance at winning one of the GREAT raffle baskets generously donated by our sponsors who believe in our cause—more access to Long Island beaches, parks, and other places for us and our dogs!

LI-DOG would like to thank The Refuge and Tito’s Vodka for not only donating one of their popular raffle baskets for the event but also for including LI-DOG in the Tito’s x Refuge donation program for Long Island nonprofits. We are so grateful for their generous support!

PET PARENT ESSENTIALS FOR THE BRUNCH: Make sure to walk your dog outside the venue before entering, bring poop bags, and watch your dog closely. Please note that while well-socialized and fully vaccinated dogs are allowed on the grounds of the venue, ONLY service dogs are permitted to enter the indoor bar/restaurant area.

Brunch Reservations: Call The Refuge at 631-577-4444.

We look forward to seeing you at Barkin’ Brunch with LI-DOG at The Refuge!

LI-DOG Pack Walk™ at Avalon Park & Preserve

Sun., Sept. 19th, Group 1:  10 AM – Noon, Group 2: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Harbor Rd,  Stony Brook

(Google Map)

How to find us: Walk along the path at the foot of the pond until it broadens a bit and there is a large map of the park’s trail system on a stanchion. We’ll be gathering there. (Please note this is a change of location from our initial plan.)

Please join LI-DOG for our September Pack Walk™ at Avalon Park & Preserve in Stony Brook, NY! This park and preserve consists of 140 acres of woods and fields, trails and paths. The 8 acres which make up Avalon Park were purchased in 1997 by the Paul Simons Foundation, which transformed the area into a series of woodland gardens and paths that celebrate the natural flora of Long Island. The Preserve area includes 76 acres of fields and forests and a network of trails that provide access to all parts of the preserve.

This Pack Walk™ will cover 2.6 miles and take about an hour and a half. There are some steps, roots to step over, and inclines, but the walk should not be difficult for people and dogs used to hour-long walks in the woods.

Due to park restrictions, we are splitting up this Pack Walk into two groups, 15 participants each. Group 1 will start at 10AM, please arrive at 9:45AM. Group 2 will start at 10:30AM, please arrive at 10:15AM. When you RSVP, please make sure you RSVP for the group which has the starting time that you want to walk.

Please note all RSVP’s MUST be done on the LI-DOG Meetup site as we must abide by the park’s rules for the size of our group. Given the limits on group size, we ask everyone to PLEASE keep your RSVP up-to-date. If you RSVP “yes” and find you can’t make the Pack Walk, change your RSVP to “No” right away, so other people and pups can come. Thank you for your cooperation!

The park’s boardwalk entrance is on Harbor Road across the street from The Grist Mill. Parking is available along Main Street, on Harbor Road, and in the Village Shopping Center just north of the park on Main Street.

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs must remain leashed AT ALL TIMES! This park has a strict on-leash policy that is enforced by the park’s Rangers. Also, please do not bring Flexi Leads as we’ll be walking in groups and people and dogs can get tangled. Also, please bring water and poop bags as cleanup is a must.

To save time before the Pack Walk, get the General Sign in Sheet and Liability Waiver NOW. Please sign it and bring it with you to the walk.

To RSVP, go to:

LI-DOG Meetup Avalon Park Group 1 (10AM)

LI-DOG Meetup Avalon Park Group 2 (10:30AM)

**In the event of inclement weather, please check Meetup or our Facebook group as we will post any weather-related changes by 9AM Sunday morning.**

We hope you and your pup will join us on the 19th!

LI-DOG Barkin’ Beach Cleanup & Doggie Meetup!

Sat., July 17th, 10 AM – Noon

Mud Creek Off-Leash Beach

450 Roe Ave.,  E. Patchogue, NY

(Google Maps)

How to find us: Look for dogs frolicking and swimming in the water!

If your dog likes to swim or just socialize, or if you would like to spend a morning with your pup, other dog owners and the great folks of LI-DOG for some OFF-LEASH summer fun, then please join us at Mud Creek Off-Leash Dog Beach in East Patchogue!

On Saturday, July 17th please join us for a couple of hours, letting our furry friends frolic in the sand and surf of the Great South Bay! There’ll be plenty of exercise to be had running along the coastline and in the water as Mud Creek is an off-leash dog beach!

A clean-up of Mud Creek Off-Leash Beach will start at 9 a.m., so if you and your fur baby would like a little extra time in the sun, please join us in getting the area ready for our meetup!

Please remember to bring plenty of water for you and your pup, your own towels, beach chairs and an umbrella!

PLEASE NOTE: Mud Creek has no amenities and is considered “carry-in, carry-out” (i.e. no trash receptacles, no poop bag stations, no bathrooms and no water fountains). LI-DOG will have poop bags on hand, but please help us make the event a success by remembering to bring these items.

Mud Creek is a natural borders dog park, which means it is not fenced on most sides. For everyone’s safety, please only bring dogs that are well-socialized—used to playing with other dogs off-leash—and that will reliably come when called. Please, no retractable leashes.

To access the dog beach, use the double-gate entry, walk along the fence, then turn right onto the beach as soon as the fence ends. Please keep off-leash dogs out of the area in front of the fence, which is a designated no-dog zone.

Parking is on the street. Please keep dogs on-leash until you get into the off-leash area.

RSVP (All RSVPs must be done on the LI-DOG Meetup Group.)

LI-DOG on Meetup

or email us at lidog_news@yahoo.com

Weather-related changes: In the event of inclement weather or exceedingly hot conditions, please check our Meetup or Facebook group by 9 AM that morning. If there are no announcements, the Beach Pawty is on!

We hope to see you and your dogs Saturday morning, July 17th at the beach!
