10/04/2020 – LI-DOG Barkin Brunch at The Refuge

LI-DOG Barkin’ Brunch at The Refuge

Sun., Oct. 4th, 11 AM – 3 PM

The Refuge

515 Broadhollow Rd., Melville, NY 11747

(Google Map)

Are you ready to “PAWTEE”? Does Sunday brunch outside with your pup on a big patio with tables and umbrellas (socially-distanced, of course), delicious omelettes, waffles, mimosas and Bloody Mary’s sound great? If so, then please join us for a Barkin’ Brunch with LI-DOG at The Refuge just off Route 110 in Melville.

Besides great food, there’ll be drink specials, dog treats, raffles, and more! Go to The Refuge Brunch Specials to see what’s on the menu!

There’s even a special Pawtee Menu with great selections for your pup!

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the outside bar is closed and the couches and chairs around it have been replaced with socially-distanced tables. In order to be seated at a table, you MUST have a reservation. You can make a reservation when you arrive, but The Refuge strongly recommends making one ahead of time by calling 631-577-4444. Please visit the check-in desk on the front patio when you arrive.

Additional tables and chairs have been added on the front lawn. These tables do not have service, but feel free to mingle with us there (socially-distanced or wearing masks) while brunch is going on.

Other COVID rules:  Everyone needs to wear a mask when they are not seated. Once you are seated the mask may be removed, but you need to respect social distancing guidelines.

This is a fund raising event to benefit LI-DOG – The Long Island Dog Owners Group. Please do take a chance at winning one of the GREAT raffle baskets generously donated by our sponsors who believe in our cause—more access to Long Island beaches, parks, and other places for us and our dogs! Please note: Due to the current COVID situation, credit cards will be our primary and preferred method of taking payment for raffle tickets. Thank you!

LI-DOG would like to thank The Refuge and Tito’s Vodka for not only donating one of their popular raffle baskets for the event but also for including LI-DOG in the Tito’s x Refuge donation program for Long Island nonprofits! We are so grateful for your generous support!

PET PARENT ESSENTIALS FOR THE BRUNCH: Make sure to walk your dog outside the venue before entering, bring poop bags, and watch your dog closely. Please note that while well-socialized and fully vaccinated dogs are allowed on the grounds of our venue, ONLY service dogs are permitted to enter the indoor bar/restaurant area.

Please join LI-DOG for our final Pack WalkTM of the 2017 season at beautiful Alley Pond Park, just over the Nassau border in Queens. This 655-acre park features miles of trails, ponds, meadows and woods. Our Alley Pond Park LI-DOG Pack WalkTM —a guided group on-leash dog walk–will start on the White Trail just east of the Parking Lot next to Baseball Field 12. We’ll then turn west onto the Orange Trail so we can walk our dogs by two pretty freshwater ponds and continue north, before heading back south again through the woods, so we make a big loop. (To see a map of the trails in Alley Pond Park, go to Alley Pond Park Trail Map.) The walk will take 45 minutes to an hour and other than one medium-sized hill is almost all on flat ground. The trail varies between asphalt and dirt.

If you’ve never been to Alley Pond Park, this is a great opportunity to get a good introduction to the park guided by an LI-DOG Pack Leader who knows the park well. If you already know Alley Pond Park, this is your chance to enjoy the park with your dog and other dog lovers and their pups!

Join LI-DOG on Sunday, Sept. 24th for one of our popular LI-DOG Pack Walks(TM) – a group on-leash dog walk–in beautiful Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown!

Blydenburgh is a 627-acre Suffolk County Park that boasts not only a large dog park, but miles of dog-friendly walking trails. The main loop trail around Stump Pond in the center of the park is six miles long, but for our Pack Walk on Sept.  24th, we’ll scope out a shorter, 45 minute or hour-long walk for everyone and their dogs. The trail is mostly flat, dirt or sand, and well-shaded by trees.  Go to Blydenburgh Trail Map for a map of the walk.

Please be aware that there can occasionally be horses on the trail and some off-leash dogs, especially in the more northern sections of the park. In any case, dogs must be kept on leash at all times and, of course, be picked up after. Also, while there is water available in the dog park, you should bring water for you and your dog on the trail.

Meet us on the big field next to the dog park to start our Pack Walk!

Once you’ve passed the entrance gate, follow the signs straight north to the Dog Park. The road will turn into a dirt road several hundred feet before you get to the parking area for the dog park.  Try to arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the walk start time so that you can sign in.

Please note: All dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination (a photo of certificate on your phone will do).
As always, check back here on Meetup on Sat. night or Sun. morning around 9 a.m. for any weather-related changes.
