Join LI-DOG on Sunday, Sept. 24th for one of our popular LI-DOG Pack Walks(TM) – a group on-leash dog walk–in beautiful Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown!

Blydenburgh is a 627-acre Suffolk County Park that boasts not only a large dog park, but miles of dog-friendly walking trails. The main loop trail around Stump Pond in the center of the park is six miles long, but for our Pack Walk on Sept.  24th, we’ll scope out a shorter, 45 minute or hour-long walk for everyone and their dogs. The trail is mostly flat, dirt or sand, and well-shaded by trees.  Go to Blydenburgh Trail Map for a map of the walk.

Please be aware that there can occasionally be horses on the trail and some off-leash dogs, especially in the more northern sections of the park. In any case, dogs must be kept on leash at all times and, of course, be picked up after. Also, while there is water available in the dog park, you should bring water for you and your dog on the trail.

Meet us on the big field next to the dog park to start our Pack Walk!

Once you’ve passed the entrance gate, follow the signs straight north to the Dog Park. The road will turn into a dirt road several hundred feet before you get to the parking area for the dog park.  Try to arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the walk start time so that you can sign in.

Please note: All dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination (a photo of certificate on your phone will do).
As always, check back here on Meetup on Sat. night or Sun. morning around 9 a.m. for any weather-related changes.

05/16/2017 – Bark in the Park with LI-DOG

Ducks Bark in the Park

Bark in the Park with LI-DOG!

Tues., May 16th, 6:35 p.m (gates open at 5:30)
Bethpage Ballpark, 3 Court House Dr., Central Islip, NY 11722 (Google Map)

Enjoy America’s favorite past time with Fido at your side (or on your lap!) at Bark in the Park with LI-DOG on Tues., May 16th at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip. You and your fur baby can cheer on our hometown favorites, the Long Island Ducks, as they play their cross-LI Sound rivals, York Revolution, all while helping support LI-DOG!

Come early for group photos (gates open at 5:30), but if Fido is still embarrassed about his last haircut, then just be sure to come by 6:15.

Our deadline for orders is Fri., April. 14th. Tickets are $15 per person** plus $5 for a Pooch Pass for your pup! All proceeds benefit LI-DOG’s work to get more access to parks and beaches for Long Island dog owners and their dogs. Please note: Tickets are non-refundable.

**If you have a big dog, you might consider buying a $15 ticket for your dog (in addition to your own $15 ticket), so he or she can sit in a seat space. There’s no need to buy a Pooch Pass if you buy a $15 ticket for your dog. The $5 Pooch Pass allows your dog to sit next to you in your seat space.

Again, the deadline for ticket orders is Fri., April 14th!

Please only bring well socialized dogs to this event. LI DOG will bring extra poop bags and water, but please remember these items.

New Year, New Resolve: Make LI Dog-Friendly!

LI-DOG Jan. 2017 Meeting

Thurs., Jan. 19th, 7-9 PM

Plainview-Old Bethpage Library

999 Old Country Rd., Plainview, NY (Google Map)

Join us for the LI-DOG January 2017 Meeting as we map out our agenda for 2017 in our continued quest to make Long Island more dog-friendly!

There is no doubt that winter is upon us and now is the time for us to get our plans in gear so that our dogs can enjoy the outdoors. But, it’s “snow” fun when our pooches are not welcome to join us at so many of Long Island’s parks and beaches.  We’ve made great strides in this department, but we’re not done yet!

At LI-DOG, our mission is to continue to expand dog owner access to public parkland. In addition to helping to create dog parks, LI-DOG also strives for more ON-LEASH access to public trails and parks as well as off-leash access to Long Island’s many miles of public beaches.

Learn about our campaign to get access to beaches in Nassau and Suffolk counties and our goal to get more access to Hempstead, Huntington and other Town parks. We’ll also discuss plans for a possible Valentine’s or St. Patrick’s Day-themed dog event plus our upcoming Events Committee meeting.

AND… we are looking for volunteers to join our new LI-DOG DIGITAL MEDIA TEAM.

Find out about all our campaigns and events plus opportunities to volunteer for LI-DOG by joining us next week at the LI-DOG Jan. 2017 Meeting!
