Two Goldens Running in the Snow Toward the CameraThe holidays are behind us and as we head into the heart of winter, we long to duplicate those magazine-cover moments that we see of dogs enjoying the snow and the great outdoors.  With thousands of acres of parkland off limits to our furry friends here on Long Island, our choices to enjoy the outdoors with them are limited and often restricted to our backyards.  If you’re in the growing group of Long Island taxpaying citizens frustrated with the lack of “dog friendly” areas and tired of seeing “NO DOGS ALLOWED” signs, join us at our next meeting to hear how you can help to change that!

At LI-DOG, our mission is to continue to expand dog owner access to public parkland.  In addition to helping to create dog parks, LI-DOG also strives for more ON-LEASH access to public trails and parks as well as off-leash access to Long Island’s many miles of public beaches.

Learn about our latest efforts on those fronts including the latest on a dog park in the Town of Hempstead, more on-leash walking trails in Nassau County parks, and continued discussions with New York State about access to beaches.  In addition, you can find out about upcoming dog-related events.  Anyone that’s interested in helping with these campaigns and/or events should come to the meeting!

So, please don’t settle for your dog catching snowballs in the yard this Winter.  Join us for our meeting on January 21st as we continue to plot our next moves to make Long Island more dog-friendly!
