LI-DOG Pack WalkTM at Calverton Pine Barrens State Forest – CANCELLED
Sun., March 29th, 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Parking at Veterans Memorial Park
5789 Middle Country Rd., Wading River, NY
Please note that due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have cancelled this event. We are hoping to reschedule this Pack Walk for the Fall.
Please join LI-DOG for our first Pack Walk™ of the 2020 season as we visit the Calverton Pine Barrens State Forest, a forest reserve in Wading River, for the first time.
For our March LI-DOG Pack Walk™, we will be walking an approximately 2.5 mile section of a 7.6 mile loop trail. There is ample parking at Veterans Memorial Park, which is off Middle Country Rd. in Wading River. We will be meeting and starting our walk from Veterans Memorial Park. We will then walk by one of the old 10,000-foot runways that was part of the Grumman Flight Test Facility, before we turn south to follow the trail by Grumman Blvd.
Once on the Grumman Blvd. trail, we will walk to a small pond and through the woods, passing the Isaac Dog Park and finishing the walk back at Veterans Memorial Park. Though the trail has been rated moderate, the part we will be walking is a very easy walk as it is newly paved, perfectly flat and has no change in elevation.
The walk should take approximately 1 hour. For those who wish to walk further, please let one of our Pack Leaders know and we will try to have a group that will accommodate you. The extended walk, which will increase the length of the walk by approximately 3.5 miles, will go over to Grumman Memorial Park where several jets significant to that company are parked, before heading back.
PLEASE NOTE: Dogs MUST remain leashed AT ALL TIMES! Please do not bring Flexi Leads as we’ll be walking in groups and people and dogs can get tangled. Also, please bring water and poop bags – as cleanup is a must.
